Open Call for Patient Group Input – Collaborative Assessment of (bariatric) surgical methods for treatment of morbid obesity

EUnetHTA recently started a new Collaborative Assessment of different surgical methods to treat morbid obesity

To find out about participation, please read more here.

Input submissions will be received through EOB, 20th March, 2020

EUnetHTA deems patient input very important in the production of Collaborative Assessment reports. We recognise that patients and those who support them have unique knowledge about what it is like to live with a specific disease or medical condition. We believe patients or patient groups can help us understand the unique perspectives and experiences we aim to assess. They can describe advantages and disadvantages of medical treatments based on patients’ experiences and what patients value from a new treatment/procedure.

EUnetHTA recently started a new Collaborative Assessment on surgical methods for the treatment of morbid obesity. For this specific assessment, we are seeking for European and national patient organisations to provide an organisational perspective on the questions; the assessment and forms are English [1]. In all parts of this form the term “patient” refers to anyone living with obesity or who has experience with the condition for which some type of bariatric surgery is indicated. The information provided will inform the scope of the assessment, e.g. on patient relevant outcomes or possible neglected outcomes, as well as on the burden of disease.

The questions EUnetHTA ask patients or patient organisations are similar to the HTAi questionnaire on patient engagement.

EUnetHTA strives to be transparent in the information used. Therefore, we commit ourselves to making all patient submissions publically available at our webpage, at the timing of publication of the project plan for this assessment. In due course, this can be found here. We will anonymise the data from individual patients prior to publication. Furthermore, our Collaborative Assessment report will document how the information from patients was considered in developing the scope of our EUnetHTA Collaborative Assessment.

If you are interested in submitting information, please go to the questionnaire below and submit your input by EOB, Friday 2oth March, 2020.

Please see below for further guidance on how to complete this questionnaire. If you have any questions when completing this form, please contact EUnetHTA Joint Production lead partner, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health at WP4.LP_EUnetHTA.JA3@fhi.no

Many thanks for your valuable input!
